Offline Mapping for National Grid Investment Options

All gas in the UK passes through National Grid’s high-pressure transmission system on its way to customers.

This critical part of the UK infrastructure is regulated through OFGEM. National Grid is committed to bringing innovation to the industry to increase transparency and maximise their engagement with their customers and OFGEM.

However, with a complex network of assets, it is not easy to show the costs and benefits of different investment options.

OCC’s Workshops for National Grid

OCC ran a series of user workshops at National Grid’s offices in Warwick and at stakeholder meetings in London.

We prototyped a browser-based GIS mapping system that interfaces with the complex numerical models used to evaluate each investment option and that carries on working even when the internet connection is dropped.

The result is a highly engaging, responsive tool that communicates complex data quickly and has been well received by users.
